B2C

Banking & Finance

FinTech

Introduction –

Most banking apps in India are riddled with bad UX-choices that lead to a terrible experience, leading to confusion, frustration, and dissatisfaction.

At NBI, I have attempted to fix this scenario with focus on accessible and user-centred design, strategic visual hierarchy, intentional micro-interactions that aid the UX; and a clean, no-nonsense Ui with zero-bloat.

Legal Disclaimer –

‘National Bank of India’ or ‘NBI’ is a hypothetical representation of a fictitious entity, created for the sole educational purpose of an experience-design case-study.

Any such resemblances are purely unintentional and coincidental.

The problem –

Be it public-sector banks or private, bank apps still are considered the graveyard of UX and UI in the nation.

This leads to user frustration, dissatisfaction, and confusion – especially among users who are old, or have some form of disability, or those who aren’t as tech-savvy as the rest of us.

The solutions –

Debloating + Prioritisation

Bringing visual harmony through a uniform design system and consistence design choices.

Removal of on-the-face marketing that becomes very repetitive and adds to the bloat.

Bringing up components to the front, which more constitute of the users’ core-needs.

Market Opportunity

India’s fintech market is already valued at ₹ 9.39 lakh-crores in 2024; and is projected to reach ₹ 12.81 lakh-crores by 2025 (36.42% YoY).

Mobile payment users are set to grow from ₹ 136k-lakhs in 2020 to ₹ 683k-lakhs by 2025; with a 87% fintech adoption rate (4x increase YoY).

This makes India the fastest-growing, highest-scale opportunity for banking and fintech mobile apps.

Core Focus Points

Defined and compartmentalised Information Architecture that is easy to follow, and keep track of by the users.

Build and retain user satisfaction, confidence, trust, and boost credibility on reliability.

Increase visual hierarchy, accessibility, and ease of getting right to the user’s goals.

Enhance app performance by eliminating bloat and unnecessary elements, also reducing cost by reducing redundancy.
